About Us
Energy poverty and the lack of commercial sources of energy continue to present a fundamental challenge to Trinidad and Tobago and the many islands within the Caribbean Region. The challenges we can confront only through enhanced production, development and trade and training and development of our human resources. These challenges and objectives can be achieved only through ever increasing collaboration and co-operation. Our countries are at differing stages of development relative to energy needs and resource usage. The oil and gas business is of great importance to Trinidad and Tobago. The Oil and Gas sector contributes over 70 percent of our foreign exchange earnings and approximately 25 percent of the country's Gross Domestic Product. With the demand for Liquid Natural Gas supply to the United States and Europe, it is important for our country to develop its natural resources so as to continue to gain revenue. Trinidad and Tobago are among the top LNG producers in the world and are the global exporter of Ammonia and Methanol. The country's downstream industries such as power generation, aluminum and Iron and Steel also plays an important role in the regions development.
STLE's Caribbean Region Section recognizes the opportunities available to
position itself as a major player in the training and development of our
people. Tribology and lubrication engineering is now hosted at the
University of the West Indies in 2005. This new development will play an
important role to our young graduates in understanding optimum equipment
reliability. STLE Caribbean Region Section has been attracting a significant
increase in participant to our education courses. STLE Caribbean Region
Section is here, and we are here, because we understand enough of what is at
stake.
